5 things to do during the COVID-19 lockdown

COVID-19 lockdown

During this time when we are forced to stay home, everything is closed and every event canceled and having your daily activities like school or work transferred online can be frustrating for some. Especially for those who had their plans canceled and are not even able to execute their backup plans. Instead of dwelling on the fact that your plans are ruined, you can chose to do what is good and make this COVID-19 Lockdown time valuable. So, here are 5 things to do during the COVID-19 Lockdown.

1 .  Disconnect

Disconnect to reconnect (cliché right?) but yes, now is the perfect time to disconnect with everything that’s happening in the outside world, both physical and virtual world, and reconnect with who you truly are as a person. We often forget or deviate from our purpose and the person that we are once we start scrolling, liking, sharing or even comparing our lives with what others strategically edit and post on social media. So disconnecting for even just a week, to do what brings you joy and to focus on yourself can be very beneficial and even shift your attitude (in a positive way) towards what’s happening.

2 . Read

We’re often complaining about how we wish we had more time to read. Well, guess what? Now you do! This COVID-19 lockdown might not be so negative after all; it’s all about what you chose to do with your free time. Reading is an opportunity to learn (self help books are my favorite to read right now). Reading can even be an opportunity to travel.  Take advantage of the time you have right now to read.

3. Play games

My family and I were talking about the games we played when we were younger; we had joy just talking about them. Some of the highlights of my childhood are the times we used to play domino with my parents and playing UNO, Monopoly, and Elastic with my cousins. Now that we have a little extra time to be home, lets bring a little joy and value to this lockdown by recreating these bonds with our family and create new memories.

4. Learn something new

Although number one says to disconnect, you can’t not be grateful for all the good things that the Internet has to offer. In 2020 we are able to learn just about everything in the comfort of our home. So, social distancing cannot be an excuse to why you couldn’t learn Spanish.  Learn something new, like cooking, how to play an instrument that you probably already have at home. Learn a new language (you can add that to your résumé). Take an online course of that one thing you always wish you had time for.

5. Self-care

Last but not least, is to take care of your self. Self-care can start by cleaning the space you live in, taking care your body, and to finish by relaxing. Eat healthy, do a home workout (there are so many available on YouTube). So, clear out your space, make it cozy, take good care of your body and relax.

It was not part of your plan, it’s not what you want to do right now, but staying home is the only way we have right now to slow down and hopefully stop the spread of the Virus. Stay home to protect others.

COVID-19 is real, and social distancing is important!
